What is a qualifying gym?
CRC defines a qualifying fitness club or gym as a legally established business with a dedicated facility that requires
payment of an ongoing membership fee for the use of the facility, and/or separate fees per individual fitness class.
The facility must provide at minimum:
- a weight-lifting facility with either free weights or machine-based weights; or
- stationary aerobic exercise equipment, such as treadmills, elliptical trainers, rowing machines, or bikes; or
- instructor-based fitness classes such as Pilates, spinning, yoga, or Zumba.
Qualifying gyms may also include multipurpose or dedicated exercise rooms, gymnasiums, tennis courts, basketball courts, volleyball courts, racquetball or squash courts, or swimming pools.
Separate fees for personal trainers, and fee-per-use facilities such as community pools, and certain parks and recreation amenities are specifically excluded from the reimbursement program. Also excluded are Homeowner Association
(HOA), country club, and golf club dues or fees that include access to fitness facilities and/or equipment, unless there
is an optional, separate, ongoing membership fee for fitness center access.
Are there specific gyms that are eligible for the subsidy?
You may join any gym or chain of gyms that qualifies under CRC's subsidy program. CRC has negotiated contracts with several gyms that include discounted rates and/or waived initiation fees. Employees with coverage through Aetna can also access discounted gym memberships through GlobalFit or call 800-298-7800. GlobalFit contracts with thousands of gyms nationwide such as 24 Hour Fitness, Anytime Fitness, Bally, and Curves. Note: Not all GlobalFit contracted facilities are considered qualified gyms under CRC’s subsidy program.
Where can I find a list of eligible gyms?
To review the list of eligible gyms, log on to My Info and select Main Menu>Employee Self Service>My Wellness>Gym Subsidy Request.
What if my gym is not on the list of eligible gyms?
If your gym qualifies as an eligible gym, but it is not on the list of currently approved gyms, you may submit a request to add your gym to CRC.Wellness@crc.com. Your request should include the gym’s name, address, phone number and website, if available.
You will receive a confirmation when your request is approved or denied. You cannot submit a reimbursement request until you are notified that your gym is eligible for a subsidy and has been added to the list of approved gyms.
I already have a membership at one of the contracted facilities, but my rate is higher than the discounted rate. Will I be reimbursed based on my membership rate or the discounted rate?
Reimbursement will be based on the rate you pay. You may submit your total expense for an individual membership (monthly rate plus tax), and you will be reimbursed 75%, up to the maximum of $55 per month.
May I use the subsidy for weight management, fitness, or nutritional counseling classes instead of for a gym membership?
Membership fees for facilities that offer specialized fitness programs such as Pilates, spinning, yoga, or Zumba are reimbursable, as are individual class fees. Other health and fitness programs such as Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, nutritional supplements or counseling, etc. are not currently eligible expenses under the subsidy program.
May I use the subsidy to purchase exercise equipment instead of for a gym membership?
No, home exercise equipment, clothing, running shoes, exercise DVDs, etc. are not currently eligible expenses under the subsidy program.
Will CRC pay a gym directly?
No, this is a reimbursement program via CRC payroll.
